September 2010. Looking north from I.3.3 towards reverse of south-west corner of
the above room.
Drew Baker says – the
photo was taken to compare form of the aperture.
The eastern side
appears to have a tufa framing member and the base at least a partial threshold.
However there is no
corresponding part on the western side which I would expect.
However there is a
wall there so it may not have been necessary but as there is what appears to be
original fill either this is a door which was blocked up at some point or it is
a feature of construction (opus africanum perhaps).
