We apologise for the delay in completing the addition of our new pictures.   We are still answering emails using the laptop.  Our computers and reference books are still on the ocean heading for Fremantle.  We are now starting to work on the new pictures using the laptop and will start adding them as soon as we can.

December 2007

A new search engine has been added to the site

Because it is no longer supported the pompeiiinpictures FrontPage 2003 text search engine has now been replaced by one provided by Google.  This new search engine works differently from the old one in that it looks literally for exactly what you type in.

Casca Longus
finds documents containing 'Casca' and 'Longus'

Casca or Longus
same as above

Casca and Longus
same as above

Casca not Longus
same as above
Cas*
finds documents containing 'Cas*' and does not act as a wild card search unfortunately.

Remember if searching for a house number that the first part of the number is in roman numerals I, II, III, IV etc so use IX.1.1 not 9.1.1.

If your search does not provide the answer you expect remember that there are a large number of variations on how properties were named.

Try swapping Casa or House or Domus for example.

Try Latin variations such as Holconi Rufi instead of Holconius Rufus.

Try swapping Italian or English alternatives such as Giuseppe for Joseph, Queen for Regina.

A shorter search with fewer words may work better sometimes.

Finally, If you find areas for improvement, please email us with the details.
